What was the challenge?
A business setup consultancy ran WordPress with 41 plugins, a heavy page builder and two SEO plugins fighting each other. Tag and author archives were indexed in their thousands, mobile pages took over six seconds to appear, and a recent redesign had broken many internal links.
What was the strategy?
- 01
Clean up the install before publishing anything new
- 02
Remove thin archive pages from the index
- 03
Improve the pages that were already close to page one
What exactly was done?
3 moves, each with what was done and why it mattered.
- 01Technical SEO
Cut the plugin list and sped up the theme
Reduced plugins from 41 to 16, removed the second SEO plugin, replaced the slider and added server caching and image compression.
Why it mattered: Every plugin adds code and risk. Mobile load times dropped sharply, and duplicate meta tags and conflicting canonical tags disappeared.
- 02Indexing
Noindexed thin archives
Set tag, date and author archives to noindex, merged overlapping posts and repaired broken internal links from the redesign.
Why it mattered: Google spent less time on empty pages. Pruning thin URLs made the strong pages easier to find.
- 03Content
Refreshed pages ranking in positions 8 to 20
Updated 25 existing service and guide pages with current fees, clearer answers and better internal links.
Why it mattered: Pages already close to the top usually offer the quickest gains. No new domain authority was needed to move them.
What do I stand for?
Subtract before adding
Most slow WordPress sites need fewer things, not more.
Keep control in your team
Your editors should be able to keep the site healthy after I leave.

Mostly subtraction: fewer plugins, fewer indexed pages and a faster theme, before any new content was written.
