The challenge

What was the challenge?

A licensed operator running desert safaris, Hatta trips and dhow cruises sold most of its seats through online travel agencies at high commission. Its own tour pages were thin, prices were hidden until the last step of booking, and GetYourGuide and Viator ranked above it even for its own experiences.

The strategy

What was the strategy?

  1. 01

Make tour pages better than those of the resellers

  2. 02

Plan content around where visitors come from and when they travel

  3. 03

Move reviews and trust onto the operator's own site

The playbook

What exactly was done?

3 moves, each with what was done and why it mattered.

  1. 01Content

    Rebuilt the main tour pages

Rewrote each tour with itinerary, pickup zones, what is included, price, age limits and cancellation terms, with Product and Review schema where eligible.

Why it mattered: Resellers win on clarity. An operator can beat them with first-hand detail that no third-party listing can match.

  2. 02Source markets

    Published for key visitor groups

Created content for visitors from the UK, India, Germany and GCC countries, including Ramadan, summer and winter guidance and German and Arabic pages.

Why it mattered: Visitors search differently depending on origin and season. Planning around this brought demand that had been going entirely to resellers.

  3. 03Conversion

    Added direct booking reasons

Showed a price on page, a best-rate promise and free cancellation terms, with direct WhatsApp support before departure.

Why it mattered: A clear reason to book direct moved revenue away from commission, which improved margin even more than traffic growth did.

The principles

What do I stand for?

  • First-hand detail beats listings

Only the operator knows the real experience. That belongs on the page.

  • Track margin, not only traffic

A direct booking is worth more than a reseller's.
