Key takeaways

  • Every branch needs its own Google Business Profile, with the same name and main category as the others.
  • Each profile should link to its own branch page on your website, not to the homepage.
  • Pages for emirates where you have no branch can count as doorway pages under Google's spam policies.
  • Bulk verification starts at 10 locations, and changing store codes by spreadsheet can create duplicates.
  • Never ask customers to mention a branch or service in a review, although Google AI Mode recommended it in my October 2026 test.

Multi-location search engine optimization (SEO) in the UAE is the work of getting each branch of one business found by people searching near it. A clinic group with branches in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah is not one business to Google Maps. It is three, and each branch earns its place on its own.

Much advice on this topic puts every branch at risk. This guide follows Google's own guidelines, plus one test I ran on Google AI Mode.

What is multi-location SEO in the UAE?

Multi-location SEO is the work of making every branch of one business findable on its own in Google Maps and Search, with one profile and one page per location. In the UAE, a multi-branch business usually competes in several emirates at once, each with its own customers, competitors and map results.

Google held 93.47% of UAE search engine market share in September 2026, according to StatCounter, and my SEO statistics for the UAE cover the wider market.

Each emirate is a large market in its own right. The Statistics Centre Abu Dhabi reports that Abu Dhabi's population reached 4,135,985 in 2024, up 7.5% in one year. Sharjah's Department of Statistics and Community Development counted 2,135,888 people in the Sharjah Census 2025, in results the Sharjah Government Media Bureau published in June 2026.

A branch in Sharjah's Al Majaz competes with the businesses around it, not with your Abu Dhabi branch. For a multi-branch business, Abu Dhabi SEO and Sharjah SEO start at the branch level, not the brand level.

How does Google rank each branch in the map results?

Google ranks each branch on its own, using three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. Google's Business Profile help center says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and popularity, which it explains as prominence. Google also says no one can request or pay for a better local ranking.

The map pack is the short list of businesses Google shows with a map in its results. Google measures distance between the searcher and each branch, not your brand.

I check map rankings from a grid of points around each branch, not from one desk. My guide to local SEO in Dubai explains the map pack in more detail.

How should you set up a Google Business Profile for every branch?

Give every branch its own verified Google Business Profile, with one shared business name and main category, a local phone number and a link to its own page. Google says not to create more than one profile for any location, so one branch means exactly one profile.

Google's guidelines for representing your business set four rules that matter most for chains:

  • Name. All locations in the same country must use the same name. The exceptions are sub-brands and storefronts that consistently show a different name.
  • Category. All locations must share the one category that best represents the business. Use as few categories as possible.
  • Phone. Use a local phone number instead of a central call center helpline whenever possible.
  • Website. Link to a website that represents the individual business location.

Area names cause the most trouble. Google rejects location add-ons in a business name: “near SOHO” is not allowed, while “Equinox SOHO” is fine because SOHO is part of the real name. “Dubai Marina” belongs in your branch name only if it is on the sign.

Clinics need one more rule. Distinct public-facing departments, and practitioners whom customers contact directly, can have their own profiles. Support staff cannot.

Businesses that go to the customer, such as cleaning or air-conditioning maintenance companies, follow different rules. A service-area business keeps one profile, hides its address and lists up to 20 service areas by city or area. Google says the overall area shouldn't extend beyond about 2 hours of driving from the base, so list only the areas you actually reach.

A virtual office you don't operate from is not eligible. For the full address and verification rules, see my guide to Google Business Profile setup in Dubai.

When do bulk verification and store codes matter?

In multi-location SEO, bulk tools matter once a business has 10 or more locations. Google lets businesses with 10 or more locations add, verify and manage them in bulk through Business Profile Manager, its dashboard for multi-location accounts. Below 10, you verify each branch on its own.

Bulk verification covers 10 or more locations of one business in a single request. Google's help page on verifying Business Profiles in bulk adds conditions that rule out many UAE setups:

Your setupVerification route
Fewer than 10 branchesVerify each profile individually
10 or more storefront branches of one businessBulk verification request
Service-area business, any sizeNot eligible for bulk verification
Agency account holding several businessesNot eligible for bulk verification

The store code trap catches growing chains. A store code is Google's unique internal identifier for each location in your account. Google says each location must have a unique code, and that adding or changing a store code on an existing location through a spreadsheet creates a duplicate location.

To avoid duplicates, set store codes for existing branches in each profile's settings.

If a head office or agency manages your branches, use business groups: sets of profiles an organization manages together and shares access to.

How do you build location pages that aren't doorway pages?

Build one page per real branch, write it about that branch only, and link that branch's Business Profile to it. A location page is a page on your website for a single branch, with its own address, phone number, hours and details a visitor can act on. Pages that only swap the city name can be doorways.

Google's spam policies list, as an example of doorway abuse, pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page. Several pages ranking today for “Sharjah SEO” follow that pattern: a generic services page with the emirate name added.

A branch page earns its place with details only that branch has:

  • The branch's name, address and phone number, matching its Business Profile exactly
  • Opening hours, including special hours
  • Services available at this branch, which may differ from other branches
  • Directions from landmarks customers actually use
  • The staff or practitioners who work there

Google's guidelines ask for a website that represents your individual business location, so the Sharjah profile links to the Sharjah page, not the homepage.

Structured data is code that labels page content for search engines. Google's local business structured data guide, updated in September 2026, says to mark up each location as its own LocalBusiness entity. It requires name and address, recommends a url that links to the specific location, and uses JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) in its examples. Google also says markup does not guarantee any search feature.

Should you build Abu Dhabi or Sharjah pages without a branch there?

Only when you genuinely serve that emirate and can say something specific. Use this rule:

Your situationWhat to buildWhat keeps it legitimate
Branch in Abu DhabiA branch pageReal address, hours, services, staff
No branch, but you serve Sharjah from DubaiA service-area pageSpecific services, coverage and visit details
No branch and no service in the emirateNothingNot applicable

You don't need a separate domain per branch or emirate. I recommend one site with a locations section, so each new branch adds a page, not a site.

If you build Arabic versions of your branch pages, the language rules are in my guide to bilingual SEO in the UAE.

How do you collect reviews for each branch without breaking Google's policy?

Ask every customer of each branch for a review, send them that branch's review link, and leave the words to them. Google's Maps policy bars incentives, asking only happy customers, staff review targets, and requesting that specific content be included in a review.

I tested Google AI Mode on 13 October 2026 with two questions about ranking branches across Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Both answers told businesses to ask customers to mention the branch and service in their reviews.

Google's Maps user contributed content policy says merchants should not request that specific content be included. A review template that asks for the branch name breaks that rule at every branch that sends it.

Google's Maps Content Trust & Safety Report shows Google removed 292 million reviews in 2025 for policy violations, legal reasons or user requests. A routine that holds up across branches:

  • Send each customer the review link for the branch they visited.
  • Ask every customer, not just the ones you expect to be happy.
  • Never set review targets for branch staff.
  • Reply to every review on every profile.

Do your branches appear in Google AI Overviews and AI Mode?

Google AI Overviews are available in the UAE, and Google AI Mode answers questions about ranking UAE branches. As of 13 October 2026, Google lists the United Arab Emirates and Arabic as supported for AI Overviews.

In my test, Google AI Mode cited YouTube explainers and small UAE agency sites, and a Google Help page only once. It mixed sound advice, such as one profile per branch, with the review advice above.

In August 2026, Miriam Daniel, VP and GM of Google Maps, said Ask Maps was rolling out in English to over 150 countries and territories. She wrote: “Ask Maps is Google Maps' biggest transformation in over a decade.” The announcement did not name the UAE.

I can't show that clean branch data earns AI citations. My test does show that AI answers get these rules wrong, so your own pages should state each branch's facts clearly.

What to check every month across all locations

Multi-branch listings drift, because anyone can suggest changes to a Business Profile. Google blocked 79 million inaccurate or unverified edits to Business Profiles in 2025, according to an April 2026 post by Bibek Samantaray, Group Product Manager for User Generated Content at Google. Since April 2026, Google has been rolling out email alerts so verified owners can review important edits before they go live.

A monthly check across all locations:

  • Review suggested edits and edit alerts on every profile.
  • Look for duplicate listings in Business Profile Manager, especially after a spreadsheet upload.
  • Confirm the name and main category still match across all branches.
  • Check regular and special hours for each branch.
  • Confirm each profile still links to its own branch page.
  • Reply to new reviews on every profile.
  • Compare calls, direction requests and website clicks per branch.

I judge local work by actions, not rankings. For a Dubai gold and jewelry retailer, enquiries through forms, WhatsApp and calls grew fourfold in six months, verified in Google Search Console. That project centered on the website, not the Business Profile, so it proves nothing about map rankings.

Most multi-location problems I find are structural: duplicate profiles, branches linked to the homepage, and location pages copied from each other. As a local SEO consultant in Dubai, I audit every branch's Business Profile and page against Google's guidelines. I fix duplicates and links, then set one structure that holds as you add branches. The profiles stay in your Google account, and each month I report calls, direction requests and enquiries per branch.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
Can my branches in different emirates use different names?

No, not by default. Google's Business Profile guidelines say all locations in the same country must use the same name, except sub-brands and branches that consistently show a different name on their storefront. An area such as Dubai Marina belongs in the name only if it appears on the sign.

Do I need a separate location page for each branch?

Yes, one page per real branch. Google's guidelines ask for a website that represents each individual location, and its LocalBusiness markup recommends a URL for the specific location. Write each page about that branch's address, hours, services and staff, because pages that only swap the city name can count as doorways.

Can I ask customers to mention the branch in their Google review?

No. Google's Maps content policy says merchants should not request that specific content be included in reviews, and a branch or service name is specific content. Send each customer the review link for the branch they visited, ask everyone the same way, and let them write what they want.

Do Google AI Overviews show in the UAE?

Yes. As of 13 October 2026, Google's AI Overviews help page lists the United Arab Emirates among supported countries and Arabic among supported languages. When I tested Google AI Mode in October 2026, it got some multi-location rules wrong, so keep each branch's profile and page accurate.
